Power BI reports and models
A proper star-schema data model underneath, not a flat table with visuals stacked on it.
United States · San Jose · Power BI & BI
Most South Bay companies already have a warehouse, so the BI question is narrower than usual: what stays in Excel. Our answer is normally scenario work and the board presentation layer, with everything recurring moving to the warehouse.

SaaS metrics, board decks and the spreadsheet that has outgrown itself.

What moves, what stays, in what order, and what it costs to maintain afterwards.
Against agreed definitions, with the measure logic documented.
The data model is where BI projects succeed or fail. Visuals are the easy part.

Questions
Answers for this service in this market, including the ones that might cost us the job.
Ask us something elseBecause changing an assumption and immediately seeing the effect is something BI tools are bad at, and that is most of what a finance team does. The split we recommend is warehouse for recurring aggregation, Excel for judgement.
Yes. Inherited reports usually need the data model examined before anything else — most performance and accuracy problems originate there rather than in the visuals.
Often the warehouse, and we will say so even though it makes the engagement smaller. Excel is the right home for scenario modelling, board presentation layers and anything where a human needs to change an assumption and see the effect. Recurring high-volume aggregation belongs in SQL. Most companies we see have the split backwards.
